Newport Beach, CA

Long before Ella or Miles, Scott and I rented bikes and rode along Newport Beach. While riding, we noticed a slew of beautiful rentals just along the bike path with direct access to the beach. We talked about renting one of those places one day; well ten years later we made it happen.

This summer Scott’s birthday (June 21) happened to fall on Father’s Day. The intensity of the Las Vegas summer was getting old and the pool provided only so much reprieve. We decided that escaping the heat to the coast and splurging on one of those rentals was the perfect solution. The weekend was spent riding bikes, playing catch in the sand, and running from waves.

Highlights included: 16 miles of biking with the kids’ new geared bikes, frozen banana treats on Balboa Island, visiting with Aunt Shirley and Apple Valley Family (including the dog, Levi), and watching dolphins jump along the shore. Miles caught a million baseballs while Ella collected a million seashells. The mornings were cool and cloudy and the days were sunny and warm. The ocean breeze and salty air was the perfect break from the Las Vegas heat; an excuse to escape to celebrate Scott!
